The ins and outs of Bob Dylan's relationships

By: Shlomo Tommer, Sat Dec 10th, 2005 12:43:27 AM

Even-tempered and peace-loving, Bob Dylan is not easily ruffled and is rarely given to emotional displays. He has a calming effect on more high-strung or volatile people, and an emotional steadiness that others find soothing. Though gentle and not easily provoked, Bob is tremendously stubborn and will resist any change which requires an emotional adjustment, such as changes in his home life or marriage.

Dylan seeks security and loyalty in love, is extremely devoted to his loved ones, and provides a warm, nurturing atmosphere for them. However, he tends to cling and seek to keep others from changing.

A great deal of physical affection, closeness, and touching is essential to Bob's well-being, and he has a tendency to overindulge in sensual comforts and pleasures. At times he substitutes food for emotional comfort and love.

(Article continued below)

Bob Dylan is emotionally expressive and often dramatizes his feelings, acting them out or blowing them out of proportion. He cannot hide his instinctive emotional reactions to people or situations, and does not make any pretenses about his personal sympathies or antipathies.

Bob has a childlike openness and playfulness which is very appealing to others, but which sometimes gets him into trouble, as he takes risks on impulse or whim.

Serious and emotionally reserved, Bob Dylan was probably never an exuberant, playful child, and he rarely expresses himself in a spontaneous, childlike manner. Bob is cautious about letting others get close to him and sometimes withdraws from people altogether. At times, even when he is with people, Dylan feels lonely or isolated. Learning to appreciate his own company and to find satisfying solitary activities is essential to his emotional well-being.

In addition to his rather introverted, serious, or self-contained side, Bob Dylan has a wild streak and urge for emotional freedom that breaks through erratically. He craves both stability and excitement, and the conflict between these two impulses can make him rather tense and irritable. However, they can also balance one another. Bob's more free and unpredictable side will now be described.

Bob has an unusual sense of humor and enjoys acting a little bit crazy or outlandish sometimes. He craves excitement and emotional freedom and likes to break the rules and take risks. Anything new or untried appeals to Dylan and he has little patience with restrictive customs. He is attracted to unusual, creative, or offbeat people and nontraditional lifestyles.

The beauty and harmony of his surroundings has a very powerful effect on Dylan's emotions. He is very sensitive and cannot stand to be in an atmosphere where there is discord or dissonance. Gentle, kindhearted, and peace-loving, Bob will give or sacrifice much in order to avoid a fight and to "make everyone happy".

In love, Bob Dylan is more interested in a person's sense of humor and intelligence than in their physique. Bob likes a partner who is mentally alive and who keeps him guessing a little bit; he becomes restless and bored with someone who never asks questions, never changes or surprises him. Talking, sharing ideas, going places together and learning new things together is very important to his happiness. Bob needs lots of social stimulation, is something of a flirt, and likes to have many friends of both sexes. A possessive, jealous partner is very stifling for him.

When Bob Dylan cares about someone, he likes to serve them, doing small thoughtful favors, helping them, or doing something tangible to show his affection.

Dylan also has considerable artistic or creative skill. In fact, he is suited for a profession involving beauty or pleasure or making people happy in some way.

Bob Dylan has a good understanding of his own needs but also is genuinely interested in other people. Others are attracted to Bob because of his gentle, kind and friendly manner. He feels especially drawn to young people.
