Gotta Cancel A Date? Tips For A Romance Rain Check

It's a new love relationship and you've been looking forward to your second romantic date with your new flame, when the boss calls and tells you it's going to be a late night at the office to meet a deadline. How do you let your date down, while setting yourself up for a rain check rendezvous?

Show your disappointment.

This is one time you want to let your frustration show. It's okay, to put your real feelings on the line.

Have an alternative plan.

Be quick to toss out one or two options to replace the loss. They may have to be even better date ideas than the original to make up for it. Be sure not to let too much time pass in between.

Send a follow-up momento.

If you feel inclined, send a next-day e-mail or special delivery saying how you're looking forward to the next time. "This e-mail will self-destruct if I don't see you in 24 hours."
