Old Rockers Never Fade Away

This is a true story that took place over thirty years ago on Long Island, in New York State. I was not even out of High School when I met “Bob”. He was every mother’s dream- he really liked me & wanted for us to get married. He had graduated High School and had previously been enrolled in Catholic School; most of all he had similar values and was extremely intelligent. We talked a lot about what we wanted from our lives. He was exuberant, about the future. I was not as enthusiastic as him- I even said if we had a daughter together that had all of our less desirable traits; my crooked eyes, my weight issues and his nose it would be a disaster. We decided not to see each other shortly after that but not before discussing a “what would I do if…” regarding his future as a famous person. I felt miserable but I listened intently. He talked about Rock Theatrics- Horror Movies- The basic what would you do if I became famous issues. I approached my response very seriously. I first promised I would never contact him nor compete against him for media attention. I then continued with “his privacy” and how he could control his information flow to avoid his future “Fans” from stampeding his home- He should be able to retreat someplace I told him long ago people should be held off from that place, he agreed. Time progressed & in 1980 I moved off Long Island. I went on to fulfill my cause of equal rights in the work place for women. Yes in a sense I became something special. I was the original Female Truck driver working in an all male environment until the courts drew up a consent decree ensuring 25% of the future employees be female, I was alone for several years. I never went public with my story because of the agreement I had with “Bob”. As time progressed I still enjoyed various Rock Concerts and always kept my ideas to myself- I think I am a purest. I believe this country was created by and for the people! That’s the way it should stay a government run by the people for the people. We knew each other before Viet Nam was over- After the atrocity of “Kent State” & after the assignations of the Kennedy’s and Martin Luther King. I was brutally honest towards him about my feelings & now I guess I feel guilty about not speaking out sooner because there is no word after he had throat surgery several months ago- nothing has been said. Yes he has had his fame when he spoke to the Senate subcommittee about censorship- He single-handedly dealt with a serious problem that had been festering like an open wound here in America. His testimony is available online and is very interesting I could not have said it better then he did! Only after carefully researching his former Rock Bands did I realize it must be him because he was brilliant then and how he evolved his various characters matches, the person I once knew. No I really do not want to tarnish his star-but instead admire it for all the hard work it took him to achieve recognition for his talents. I moved to Pennsylvania in 1990. My friend asked me a while back if I knew anyone from Twisted Sister, specifically Mr. Snider. I denied it many times until now- I really am not interested in Horror and never have been his overall transformation is almost unbelievable from the boy next door to this ranting crowd pleaser its better then I could have imagined. I have watched his MTV show several times & thought how he always said he wanted 4 kids & his children are as gorgeous as his lovely wife Suzette. I have gone on with my life and raised 3 children – 2 boys with a girl in the middle the oldest is 22 the youngest 18. I would not trade them for the world. I am haunted occasionally by old memories but is Mr. Snider OK was it “simple surgery” or is he once again holding a brave face while he faces another gut wrenching episode in the true reality we call life.
