By: Kim Parker, Tue Jun 13th, 2006 06:20:01 PM

Millions of people today suffer from obesity, and, most of them want an immediate solution to their problems. In this obesity epidemic, a number of diet pills and weight reducing programs are available in the market, aimed at immediate weight loss and appetite suppression. A number of products like vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements as well as prescription pharmaceutical medications are also available.

Adipex –an appetite suppressant

Adipex is an appetite suppressant that is used as a short-term supplement to diet and exercise in the treatment of obesity. The generic name for Adipex is Phentermine. Adipex is a sympathomimetic amine similar to amphetamine. Also known as anorectic/anorexigenic drug.

Adipex stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brains) and increases heart rate and blood pressure and decreases appetite.

Adipex decreases appetite by possibly changing brain levels of serotonin. Phentermine is a nervous system stimulator like the amphetamines, causing stimulation, elevation of blood pressure, and faster heart rate.

Adipex is used as a short-term drug along with the diet and behavior modification. It is known to be habit forming. It causes both physical and psychological dependence and shows withdrawal affects if left suddenly.

When used appropriately any appetite suppressant can be real therapeutic benefit and pose little risk. But as they say ‘no pain. no gain’, similarly there are no shortcuts when it comes to loosing weight. Do start exercise if you have not being doing so. Adipex is a diet aid that controls appetite.
