How to Avoid Getting a Ticket?

By: Ali Moazami, Tue Dec 6th, 2005 02:54:09 PM

There are many steps that you can take to avoid a ticket. Here are some:

Keep your eye on your driving record just like your credit report. Some states charge $5 for it. It's worth it.

If you have a broken headlight, taped over taillight or a missing front license plate you are asking for a ticket. It only costs less than $3 to fix your lights or a couple of minutes to have to plates installed. It will save you money in the long run.

(Article continued below)

Don't buy that sports car in red. Flashy colors attract cops. Don't give them an excuse.

Go with the flow of traffic. Don't lead.

Be aware of your surroundings. Lookout for patrol cars that might be hiding. If you are not familiar with the roads, don't speed.

Here is what to do if you get pull over:

Don't run your mouth off. Be polite. Cops hate rude people.

Deny, deny, deny. Don't admit anything.

If you get a ticket, always fight it. It will run out to cost you less in the long run. If for example, you receive a ticket and just pay it off, the information will be sent to your state's DMW and eventually your insurance company. Once the insurance company receives the information, your premium will be increased by up to 10% or more for the next three years. You will then lose your good driving record and therefore end up paying more. A lot more!!!
