XBOX 360, Buy Now Or Later

By: Kenneth Elliott, Thu Dec 8th, 2005 09:07:38 PM

Is their enough life in the new XBOX 360 to get rid of your XBOX system?

My main answer to this question would be no. Let me explain. Yes, the new XBOX 360 has some cool gadgets as well as cool graphics. But I don't think it's enough to overcome the price of the new system. The new gadgets as well as the graphics of the games have not outpaced the old system by leaps and bounds. The original XBOX has and can do everything that the new system can do and also its has a larger game install base as compared to the new XBOX 360. Yes, the XBOX 360 will catch up to the number of games offered by the original XBOX system, but right now that is not the case.

Now lets compare components. The original XBOX comes with a hard drive installed in the unit, while the XBOX 360 has an add-on hard drive component. But this one component alone takes the hard-core gamers out of the loop for online multiply player games. So, that makes it a must have for the XBOX 360. Online capability has gone wireless with the XBOX 360. Their no more fumbling with wires and the wireless component integrates nicely with the XBOX 360 case. But the original XBOX can go wireless also. Yes, you will have to get a secondary solution for this capability but with the price of the original system and this secondary solution you're still well below the opening price of the XBOX 360. Still making the original XBOX and excellent choice.

Controllers are the same issue. XBOX 360's premium package comes with wireless controllers. But you're paying upwards of $400.00 dollars for the XBOX 360 to have this capability. But in contrast, the XBOX starts at about $150.00 dollars. Included in the box is a non-wireless controller. But you can purchase a wireless controller for about $40 dollars more.

Overall, I do like the new XBOX 360 but at this time I would not recommend purchasing it until either the game base increases (which it will) or the price drops. Either way, wait a little while and enjoy the XBOX with all of its games and hardware discounted. You are sure to find great deals on the console as well as the games.
