What about the other 48% people?

By: Anand Sharma, Fri Dec 9th, 2005 04:32:40 PM

Ramdoss, our health minister, who is so very much concerned about our health, is taking a drastic step to reduce smoking. Or at least he thinks he is. He is about to ban the portrayal of smoking in movies. And what more you ask? He has charged the tobacco industry of using the film industry to increase sale. How? Well, by paying actors to smoke of course. Whao! That’s a pretty serious allegation. Unfortunately, he has no proof for it. Well Mr. Health Minister, let me make a point here. I don’t know why you didn’t think of it, neither do I know why it hasn’t registered in your mind even when it has been shouted out by many people, including film stars like Jackie Shroff. But dear, why don’t you try and ban the whole TOBACCO INDUSTRY instead? I am sure it would be much more helpful in reducing smoking hazards. Our concerned health minister has taken to banning the portrayal of smoking in films, by reading a study in the popular medical journal, Lancet, which says 52% children take to smoking after being influenced by movie stars. Mr. Ramdoss, don’t you care about the other 48% of people. I hope you do. And if you don’t want my hope to die, ban the whole tobacco industry and show that our ministers can be very mature.
