Sales letters also take advantage of visual aids. These include such devices as CAPITAL LETTERS, different type styles, italics, “quotation marks,” bolds, dashes -- , dots . . . , short sentences, short paragraphs, phrases punctuated as sentences, indented paragraphs, exclamation points, and postscripts.

The purpose of such power words and visual aids is to hold the attention of the reader, who thus becomes eager to read on and find out what is interesting enough to have earned all this specialized presentation.

A word of caution: don’t belittle the reader, exaggerate, use trickery or fraud, be flippant, or abuse competitors. A little “hyping” of your item or service is good, but you must respect the intelligence of your readers. And be aware of the reader’s limited attention span. Cover only a few selling points in the letter. Trying to say absolutely everything may only confuse the reader.
