Paul Chen Swords

By: John Gottshall, Fri Dec 9th, 2005 10:30:45 PM

There are several reasons that Paul Chen swords are in great demand.

Fist and probably most importantly is that it's very hard to find this high level of construction in an oriental sword for such a low price.

Most of the Paul Chen swords are forged using a traditional construction method called "differential tempering". This means that the Ha or the edge of the blade is of a different hardness thank the Mune or back of the blade. So why is that important in a samurai sword? This is what separates Paul Chen battle ready swords from many swords. In plain English it means that the blade is more flexible than if this method was not used to forge the blade. A good samurai sword must have some flexibility to it or it will break in battle. Differential tempering makes it almost impossible for the Paul Chen swords to break.

The second reason why the Paul Chen swords are so popular with most of the swords except a few, the sword parts are authentic. For instance, many of the swords like the Shinto Katana feature premium Japanese cotton for the tsuka-ito. It's very difficult to find a samurai sword with authentic fittings and parts at such a good price.

Another reason you should consider a Paul Chen sword is because of the light weight. Most of the battle ready swords weigh less than 2 lbs. A light weight sword gives the martial artist the ability to move faster with better precision because he has a sword of superb quality and light weight. Many other swords that are supposed to be comparable to Paul Chen swords weigh in excess of 3 lbs. You might not think that 1lb can be that much of a difference for the artist but it really is.

If you are in the market for a battle ready samurai sword a Paul Chen sword should be one of your first considerations. One of the most popular is definitely the Paul Chen Golden Oriole Katana. Weather you want a sword for dojo exercises or just to hang on the wall, you can't go wrong with a Paul Chen sword, a sword that will last you a lifetime.
